Sightseeing in Murcia

There are many exciting things to visit while on your trip to Murcia, an autonomous region of south-eastern Spain.

Most visits to Murcia start by flying into Alicante airport, which is located just outside of the city. You could also fly into San Javier, but Alicante is a bigger and busier airport, which may allow you to get a better price.

It is probably a good idea to get a rental car while on your trip to Spain. You can get one conveniently outside of Alicante airport right as you get off your flight. You would be wise to make the comparisons and reservations before you arrive in Spain, to avoid higher prices and car shortages on arrival, and for the chance to just and pick up your car and be on your way.

In Murcia there are some museums for your sightseeing pleasure. The first is the Museum of Science and Water. This has some wonderful exhibits that children will find particularly entertaining. There is a planetarium and some fabulous shows that educate as well as entertain - a great day for sightseeing for adults and children alike.

The Museo de la Cuidad is another wonderful museum to visit during your trip to Murcia. It was once the home of a famous family during the sixteenth century and provides a glimpse into Spain’s rich and cultured past. There is art for the art lover and history for the history buff, and is a museum that you could easily pass a whole day exploring.

The Archeological Museum is a fascinating museum to learn about the Islamic and Roman time periods of the area. There are a number of artifacts and displays that show the rich history of the area. If ancient history is your thing this is the place to go.

Murcia is home to some spectacular beaches. For a day of relaxation and enjoying the perfect weather of Spain you can’t beat a day at the beach. Imagine yourself stretched out on the perfect sands of a gorgeous beach in Spain…ahh we can dream…well, a wonderful place for a day like this is Mar Menor which means small sea. It is a lagoon that is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a little strip of sand.

If possible, try to schedule your trip to Spain during one of their many festivals. During Easter week there are many great festivals that occur. July is the time of the Sea of Music Festival. Check with your travel agent before you go to find out when there are going to be festivals happening that you might like to visit.

Murcia (and Spain) are filled with exciting adventures and glorious relaxation – not to mention tapas (Spanish evening snacks taken with an aperitif) and very late evenings promenading. Be sure to check for festivals and events during your visit to make the most of your trip.

No matter what you are looking for on your vacation you are sure to find it here, but make sure you find time to relax as well!
