Five places to visit in Eastern Canada
The charming area of eastern Canada is a wonderful place to visit on your next vacation. Home to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and New Brunswick as well as Prince Edward Island there is much to explore and discover.
There are any number of festivals, sites and plenty of attractions to keep you busy during your stay, but there are a few things that every visitor must do while in Canada. Here is a list four of the highlights to get your vacation planning started:
Gros Morne National Park
A highlight of a visit to Newfoundland is Gros Morne National Park. A beautiful region of mountains, waterfalls and lakes, the whole park is a great region for lovers of outdoor activities. Numerous hiking trails are found varying in length from a quick half hour, to full day hikes, and some that take several days to complete. Fishing lakes and nature watching opportunities are also plentiful, as well as other popular outdoor activities such as kayaks and skiing.
If you are a lover of great outdoor scenery and wildlife you are sure to enjoy a visit to the Gros Morne National Park.
New Brunswick
New Brunswick is a region offering various attractions - both in the natural world and in the towns of the region. From the Appalachian mountains to whale watching in the Bay of Fundy (the bay with the highest tidal range in the world) there is a great deal to enjoy and discover. Chaleur Bay is another exceptionally beautiful spot to visit in New Brunswick. Various scenic drives are marked to help you make the most of a visit to the region.
Some of the towns to discover here include Bathurst, Fredericton and Saint John. Each has its own particular culture and style, and places of historical interest to discover, as well as all facilities such as bars and restaurants. If possible visit the farmers market in St. John, for great produce, seafood and meats, and hand crafted items. If you time your trip just right you may get to enjoy the maritime craft show.
Nova Scotia
(The Bay of Fundy referred to above is on the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, so is also a popular destination for this region.
Nova Scotia has an interesting mix of impressive scenery; historical interest (for example the Glooscap Heritage Centre, which looks at the history of the native population of the region); and modern towns. One particularly impressive activity is to take the scenic drive around the northern shore of Cape Breton, a very beautiful drive with fine views across the coastline and ocean, and then to explore the forests and mountains of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park - both offer remarkable opportunities to see nature and wildlife close to hand.
One popular activity is tours off the coast to see whales and other ocean life such as the dolphins and seals that all make these waters home.
Prince Edward Island
We have added a separate feature about Prince Edward Island and the activities and places to visit. As with the destinations above, it is perfect if you are looking for a place to unwind while enjoying the picturesque beauty of eastern Canada. Deep sea fishing is a sport you might find enjoyable on this island, and here are over thirty golf courses available for the golf lover in your vacation group.
